Andrene Ward-Hammond stars as Norma Johnson in The CW’s “61^st Street.” 

Andrene Ward-Hammond, also affectionately known on set and within the industry as “Sweet Drene” for her endearing and hilarious personality, is a Brooklyn native actress with Jamaican heritage, storming entertainment one performance at a time.

Hammond’s recent debut on Showtime’s “Your Honor” as Big Mo and her impactful role in “61st Street” as Norma, have garnered critical acclaim and inspired audience conversations on measuring just how ethical different societal and political constructs are today. 

With a life full of love for the arts, Hammond grew up immersing herself in plays and performances around New York.  She majored in theatre at Georgia State University where she delved into supporting the local children’s arts community.  For a decade, she ran an afterschool camp in Decatur, GA focusing on acting and other live performances where she guided children in creating live showcases written, choreographed and produced by the kids themselves.  During this time, she stepped into the acting space herself, performing in different troupes and theaters in Atlanta, eventually leading to roles in television and film including the series “Lovecraft Country,” “Atlanta,” “Mindhunter” and “The Righteous Gemstones.”  Film roles include “Loving, Assassination Nation,” “The Hate U Give” and “Just Mercy.”  The mix of roles has allowed her to show both her dramatic and comedic abilities.

With such an array and contrast of characters and important personal experiences under her belt, it’s safe to say the world is watching intently at what “Sweet Drene” will capture next.
