- Bre-Z
From the bustling barbershops of Philadelphia to the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, BRE-Z has journeyed from her humble roots to the silver screen, making her mark as a musician and actress. Rising to prominence on the Fox drama Empire, where she portrayed the formidable MC Freda Gatz, BRE-Z's talent catapulted her back to her musical beginnings with her debut album, "The Grl," released in 2018.
Born Calesha Murray in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, BRE-Z grew up immersed in a family of barbers, inheriting the craft from both her father and grandfather. From a young age, she showcased barbering skills alongside her musical prowess by participating in various talent shows. Influenced by the likes of 2Pac, Jay-Z, Cam'ron, Missy Elliot, MC Lyte, and Jadakiss, BRE-Z's raw talent caught the attention of Roc-A-Fella rapper Freeway, who provided support and guidance during her early career. In 2008, she relocated with her mother to Atalnta where BRE-Z carved out a niche for herself as a celebrity barber before eventually making the leap to Los Angeles. A chance encounter in a barbershop led to her audition for the hit television series Empire, where she landed the role of the fierce rapper Freda Gatz, captivating audiences from 2015 to 2019. BRE-Z expanded her acting portfolio, showcasing her versatility in projects like 2017's The New Edition Story and securing a leading role on the CW series All American as Tamia "Coop" Cooper. Currently, BRE-Z continues to star as "Coop" on All American, which has been renewed for a sixth season. She is also working on new music slated for release in late 2024.
