ENNIS ESMER
Ennis in “Children Ruin Everything”
Ennis Esmer stars as Ennis in The CW’s new comedy series “Children Ruin Everything.” Ennis is the single and independently wealthy best friend and colleague of James (Aaron Abrams), who enjoys a privileged kid-free life.
Esmer portrayed billionaire criminal mastermind turned FBI consultant Rich Dotcom in the hit series “Blindspot” and Dave Amari on DirecTV’s “You Me Her.” Previously, Esmer starred as Nash on the Amazon series “Red Oaks” which ran for three seasons, as Kurtis Mazhari on Global’s “Private Eyes” and Oz Bey on CTV’s “The Listener,” which ran for five seasons. His work on the latter show earned him an ACTRA Award nomination and multiple Canadian Comedy Award nominations.
Esmer recently starred in a recurring role in the fifth season of “Schitt’s Creek.” His other television credits include a series regular role on “The L.A. Complex,” which aired on The CW. He has had recurring and guest-starring roles on numerous series, including “Dark Matter,” “Man Seeking Woman,” “Lost Girl,” “Covert Affairs,” “Republic of Doyle,” The CW’s “Nikita” and “The Transporter,” among others.
Additionally, Esmer served as a co-host of the Canadian edition of the game show “Wipeout” and hosted the Gemini Awards, Canada’s version of the Emmy Awards, two years in a row.
On the silver screen, Esmer can be seen opposite Troian Bellisario and Patrick J. Adams in the indie “Clara,” which screened at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival. Other independent film credits include “How to Plan an Orgy in a Small Town,” directed by Jeremy LaLonde, “Big News From Grand Rock,” directed by Daniel Perlmutter, “Dirty Singles,” directed by Alex Pugsley, “Sex After Kids,” directed by Jeremy LaLonde, and the breakout hit “Young People Fucking,” directed by Martin Gero.
Esmer emigrated to Toronto from Ankara, Turkey, at the age of three. He trained at Second City while attending the fine arts high school Earl Haig. He made it through three years of theatre training at York University before getting the boot, while spending much of the early 2000s working on standup, sketch (with Mustered & Relished), and musical comedy (as front man of Calcu-Lator & The Oral Presentation) at clubs around Toronto.
